Familiar and fresh faces come together for CommBank ParaMatildas AIS camp

CommBank ParaMatildas head coach Kelly Stirton has named a 14-player squad to take part in this weekend’s training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The training camp will mark the first time the team will come together following the conclusion of the 2022 National Para Football Championships on the Gold Coast last month.

A host of familiar names return for the assembly including CommBank ParaMatilda of the Year and National Para Football Championships Goalkeeper of the Tournament, Katelyn Smith, and CommBank ParaMatilda Rookie of the Year, Rae  Anderson.

Meanwhile, a multitude of fresh faces will enter their first national team camp headlined by 2022 National Para Football Championships Female Young Player of the Tournament, Annmarie De Uriarte. The 14-year-old is joined by five other national team debutantes from NSW, WA and ACT.

Stirton expressed her anticipation in working with a new cycle of CommBank ParaMatildas hopefuls.

“I cannot wait to have the girls come back into camp and to be able to introduce our new players into our environment,” said Stirton. “This camp is all about development and bringing the team together after a busy year and with the success of our first World Cup.”

“From the World Cup, we have been able to introduce seven new players (one unable to attend due to schooling commitments) into the playing group, which is extremely exciting.

“We are starting to see the growth in the game and our players have started to inspire our next generation. This camp is about setting the stepping stones to success, ensuring that we develop and encourage our players in a professional environment.”

October’s training camp will commence this Friday, 21 October and the team will hold an Open Training session on Saturday, 22 October at 3.30 pm.

The CommBank ParaMatildas would then take on Canberra United Academy U14/15 side in a friendly match at 4 pm.
